Find the path early

Look at your opening tiles for a route to eight points: three suits with matching sequences suggest mixed triple chow; many tiles in one suit suggest half or full flush; many pairs suggest seven pairs or all pungs. Commit gradually, keeping alternatives.

Matching runs in two suits and a start in the third: a path toward mixed triple chow.

Flexible tiles

Middle numbers fit many patterns; honour pairs fit all pungs and half flush. Hold flexible tiles while discarding isolated terminals that support nothing.

Calls in MCR

Calling chows and pungs is allowed and common, but some patterns require concealment, and calls reveal your plan. Since a hand must still reach eight points, make sure a call does not destroy your path.

Defense

Exposed sets show what opponents are building. A player with three exposed pungs of one suit is likely chasing a flush — avoid feeding that suit late in the hand.
