Design goals
Zung Jung was created to be a modern, coherent Chinese mahjong system: easier to learn than MCR, more balanced than many house rules, and suitable for both casual and competitive play.
Scoring
It uses a compact list of patterns with point values, a simple payment system and limits. The list emphasises recognisable hands, from all chows to flushes and dragon and wind hands.
Where it is played
Zung Jung has a small but loyal following among online and club players, and its rule book is valued as a clear explanation of classic Chinese patterns.
Why it matters
It shows how mahjong continues to evolve: designers still refine the game to balance luck, skill and simplicity.
