Roman Gods Decoded
The gods, the numina, and a state religion run as public business.
Roman Gods Decoded covers a religion that worked very differently from the Greek one it is usually collapsed into. Roman practice was contractual, public and administrative — a matter of getting the ritual right rather than believing the right things.
The site covers the major deities, the numina and household gods, the priestly colleges, augury, and the calendar of festivals.
It is explicit about what Rome took from Greece and Etruria, and about which identifications between Greek and Roman gods are genuine and which are later literary convenience.
